Natural results start with the right conversation

Facial surgery at its best produces results that look natural — not "done." Dr Yaprak's approach is rooted in understanding the structure of your face first, then choosing the technique that fits. Some patients benefit from a carefully planned facelift; others from a 45-minute eyelid procedure under local anaesthetic. The consultation is where that decision is made together.

Local or general anaesthetic options Several facial procedures can be performed awake under local anaesthetic — no hospital stay, shorter recovery, and often suited to patients earlier in their facial ageing journey.
Patients travel from Auckland, Tauranga, and beyond Many patients travel from Auckland and Tauranga for their procedures with Dr Yaprak. Hamilton offers specialist-level surgery, typically with shorter wait times and at a different price point than comparable Auckland practices.
All-inclusive pricing, no hidden costs Written quotes include surgeon, theatre, anaesthetist, nursing, consumables, and six weeks of follow-up appointments.

Local or general anaesthetic — what's right for you?

A common question before consultation is whether a procedure has to involve general anaesthesia. For several facial procedures, it doesn't — and for others, general anaesthetic is the safer and more comfortable choice.

Local Anaesthetic

You remain awake and comfortable. The area is fully numbed — no sedation, no overnight stay. Often preferred by patients who want a straightforward experience and faster return to normal life.

  • Upper blepharoplasty
  • Brow lift (all techniques)
  • Local anaesthetic (mini) facelift
  • Otoplasty (adults)

General Anaesthetic

Performed at Braemar Private Hospital with a specialist anaesthetist. Generally the preferred choice for more extensive procedures, longer operating times, or where patient comfort and precision are the priority — as is often the case for more significant facial rejuvenation.

  • Facelift
  • Neck lift
  • Lower blepharoplasty (most cases)
  • Otoplasty (children)

Facial surgery — frequently asked questions

What is the difference between a cosmetic surgeon and a plastic surgeon in New Zealand? +
In New Zealand, the title "plastic surgeon" is a protected designation held only by surgeons who have completed a recognised specialist surgical training programme. "Cosmetic surgeon" is not a protected title — any registered doctor can use it. Dr Yaprak holds FEBOPRAS, is a member of NZAPS (New Zealand Association of Plastic Surgeons), and is certified by ANZBCPS (Australia and New Zealand Board of Certified Plastic Surgeons).
How long do facelift results last? +
A well-performed full facelift typically produces results lasting 7–12 years, though this varies with genetics, lifestyle, and skin quality. Ageing continues after surgery — a facelift sets the clock back rather than stopping it. A local anaesthetic (mini) facelift generally provides results lasting 3–6 years, suited to earlier-stage changes.
What is a facelift? +
A facelift releases and repositions the deeper facial tissues — the SMAS layer and facial ligaments — rather than simply pulling skin. This produces more natural, longer-lasting results and is particularly effective for significant jowling or mid-face descent. Dr Yaprak undertook advanced facelift surgical training in 2025 through observerships with Dr Ozan Sozer (El Paso) and Dr Jerry O'Daniel (Louisville), two internationally recognised names in facial surgery.
Can facial procedures be combined? +
Yes — many patients benefit from combining procedures for a more harmonious result. Common combinations include facelift with neck lift, facelift with blepharoplasty, or brow lift with upper blepharoplasty. Addressing multiple areas under one anaesthetic can also reduce overall recovery time compared to staging them separately. Dr Yaprak will discuss what makes sense for your anatomy at consultation.
Is it safe to have a facelift under local anaesthetic? +
Yes. A local anaesthetic facelift is a well-established, safe procedure for suitable candidates. The surgical area is fully numbed and patients remain awake and comfortable throughout. The technique suits patients with mild to moderate lower-face ageing who don't require the deeper structural work of a full facelift.
How much downtime should I expect after facial surgery? +
Recovery varies by procedure. Upper blepharoplasty: most patients return to normal activities within 7–10 days. Local anaesthetic facelift: 1–2 weeks. Full or facelift / neck lift: 2–3 weeks before returning to social activities, with continued improvement over 3–6 months. Specific guidance is provided at your pre-operative appointments.
Does Southern Cross cover facial surgery in New Zealand? +
Dr Yaprak is a Southern Cross Affiliated Provider. Certain procedures — particularly upper blepharoplasty where there is documented functional impairment (such as restricted field of vision) — may be covered under a Southern Cross policy. Purely cosmetic procedures are generally not covered. Dr Yaprak will advise whether your situation may qualify at your consultation.
