Request a Consultation
Use the online form or call 07 838 8984. A GP referral is not always needed for cosmetic procedures, though it may be appropriate for reconstructive, skin cancer or hand surgery.

In New Zealand, 'cosmetic surgeon' is not a protected title — some practitioners use it holding only a basic medical degree with no specialist surgical training. A specialist plastic surgeon must hold FRACS (Plastic) or an equivalent such as FEBOPRAS, which requires 8 to 12 years of supervised specialist training beyond a medical degree. The difference matters enormously for patient safety and surgical outcomes. Dr Yaprak is FEBOPRAS certified and a Member of the New Zealand Association of Plastic Surgeons (NZAPS).
Cosmetic surgery aims to improve the appearance of a feature that is functioning normally — such as a facelift, breast augmentation or tummy tuck. Reconstructive surgery restores form and function following injury, illness, cancer or a congenital condition — such as skin cancer reconstruction or nerve surgery. Dr Yaprak performs both, and many patients require elements of each. Some reconstructive procedures may be covered by Southern Cross Health Insurance or ACC where purely cosmetic procedures are not.
The best starting point is a consultation with Dr Yaprak. He will listen to your specific concerns, examine the area, explain what is technically possible and realistic for your anatomy, and outline all options — including whether surgery is actually the right choice for you. There is no obligation to proceed and no pressure at any stage. Many patients find the consultation itself enormously clarifying, even if they decide not to go ahead.
Yes, in many cases combining procedures is both safe and practical — for example, a tummy tuck with liposuction, or a facelift with blepharoplasty. Combining procedures means a single anaesthetic, a single recovery period, and often a more harmonious overall result. Whether combination surgery is appropriate depends on the procedures involved, the expected operating time, and your overall health. Dr Yaprak will discuss this in detail at your consultation.
Good candidates are generally in good overall health, have realistic expectations about outcomes, and are motivated by personal goals rather than external pressure. Factors such as smoking, BMI, certain medications and underlying health conditions can affect surgical risk and eligibility — Dr Yaprak assesses all of these carefully at consultation. Age is rarely a barrier in itself; suitability is determined on an individual basis.
This varies significantly by procedure and the nature of your work. Minor procedures under local anaesthetic may require only a few days. More involved operations under general anaesthetic typically require 1 to 3 weeks off for desk-based roles, and longer for physical work. Specific recovery timelines are covered in detail on each procedure page and discussed thoroughly at your consultation.
Dr Yaprak is a Southern Cross affiliated provider. Procedures with a functional or reconstructive element — such as blepharoplasty affecting vision, skin cancer surgery, or hand surgery — may be covered in whole or in part depending on your policy. Purely cosmetic procedures are generally not covered. We recommend calling Southern Cross directly with the procedure name and your policy number before your consultation to clarify your specific cover.
Dr Yaprak personally performs every procedure from start to finish. There is no delegation to junior surgeons, trainees or assistants at any stage. Patients who consult with Dr Yaprak are operated on by Dr Yaprak — this is a fundamental part of how the practice operates.
A GP referral is not required for cosmetic procedures — you can contact the practice directly. For skin cancer assessment, hand surgery, or reconstructive procedures, a GP referral is often the appropriate pathway and may be required for insurance purposes. If you are unsure, call the practice on 07 838 8984 and the team will guide you to the right pathway.
Yes. Dr Yaprak regularly sees patients from Auckland, Bay of Plenty, Northland, Taranaki and across New Zealand. Hamilton is approximately 90 minutes from Auckland by road, with convenient parking directly at the Waikato Specialist Centre. Many Auckland patients find wait times shorter and overall costs comparable or lower than Auckland-based specialists.
"The best result is the one that looks like it was always yours."
— Dr Bülent Yaprak, Specialist Plastic Surgeon
