How much does a facelift cost in New Zealand?
Facelift pricing in New Zealand varies considerably depending on the surgeon, the procedure, and what’s actually included in the quote. This article explains what facelift surgery costs with Dr Bülent Yaprak in Hamilton — and what those numbers mean in practice.
Why facelift costs vary so much
If you’ve started researching facelift surgery in New Zealand, you’ve probably noticed a wide range of figures — anywhere from $15,000 to well over $40,000. That range isn’t random. Facelift surgery is made up of several separate fees, each charged by a different party, and what’s included in any given quote varies significantly between practices.
The main components are:
- Surgical fee — the surgeon’s professional fee, which reflects their training, experience, and the complexity of your procedure
- Hospital/theatre fee — the cost of the operating theatre, recovery room, nursing staff, and any overnight stay at the private hospital
- Anaesthetist fee — charged separately by the anaesthetist, who is an independent specialist
- Consumables — dressings, sutures, surgical materials used during the procedure
- Follow-up appointments — some practices charge for post-operative appointments; others include them
Some practices quote a single all-inclusive figure. Others quote only the surgical fee, leaving you to discover the hospital and anaesthetist costs separately. When comparing quotes, it’s important to understand exactly what is and isn’t included.
Dr Yaprak’s approach: All quotes include the surgical fee, anaesthetist fee, hospital/theatre costs, consumables, and follow-up appointments. There are no additional costs after your written quote is issued.
Facelift costs with Dr Yaprak — a full breakdown
There are two facelift options available: a local anaesthetic facelift performed in-rooms, and a general anaesthetic facelift (with or without neck lift) performed at Braemar Private Hospital. The right option depends on your anatomy and goals — this is assessed at consultation.
Local Anaesthetic Facelift
Approximately 5 hours · Waikato Specialist Centre · Day procedure- All-inclusive (surgeon, theatre, local anaesthetic, nursing, dressings, follow-up)$16,500
Performed awake under local anaesthetic in Dr Yaprak’s rooms. No hospital admission, no general anaesthetic. You go home the same day. Overnight stay in Hamilton is required due to the length of the procedure — you cannot drive yourself home.
Facelift
Approximately 5 hours · Braemar Private Hospital- Hospital fee$15,000–$17,000
- Surgical fee$17,000–$18,000
- Anaesthetist fee$3,800
Performed under general anaesthetic at Braemar Private Hospital. Plan to stay in Hamilton 1–2 nights post-operatively.
Facelift + Neck Lift
Approximately 7 hours · Braemar Private Hospital- Hospital fee$18,000–$20,000
- Surgical fee$20,000–$22,000
- Anaesthetist fee$5,200
Facelift and neck lift combined in a single procedure. Many patients find combining both produces a more harmonious result than addressing each separately.
Hospital fees vary based on operating time and whether an overnight stay is required. Surgical fees reflect the complexity of your anatomy and the extent of the procedure. Your written quote will give you a specific figure after consultation — the ranges above reflect normal variation between patients.
What’s included in every quote
Dr Yaprak’s quotes are all-inclusive. Once you receive a written quote, there are no additional costs. Every quote covers:
- Surgeon’s professional fee
- Anaesthetist fee (for general anaesthetic procedures)
- Hospital and theatre fees (Braemar Private Hospital for GA procedures)
- All nursing, consumables, and dressings
- All follow-up appointments — including suture removal and post-operative checks
The initial consultation fee is $267. All consultations after your first visit — including your required second consultation before surgery — are complimentary.
How NZ facelift pricing compares
For context, specialist plastic surgeons in Auckland typically quote from around $20,000 for a comparatively minor facelift procedure, up to $40,000 or more for a comprehensive facial rejuvenation approach. These figures are broadly consistent with Dr Yaprak’s pricing — with the key difference being that Dr Yaprak’s quotes are all-inclusive, whereas Auckland practices often itemise costs separately.
For patients travelling from Auckland or Tauranga, the combination of comparable specialist-level pricing, shorter waiting times, and the all-inclusive quote structure makes Hamilton a practical and considered choice — even accounting for travel and accommodation costs.
| Procedure | Approx. total (Dr Yaprak) | Anaesthetic | Location |
|---|---|---|---|
| Local anaesthetic facelift | $16,500 | Local | Waikato Specialist Centre |
| Facelift | $35,800–$38,800 | General | Braemar Private Hospital |
| Facelift + Neck Lift | $43,200–$47,200 | General | Braemar Private Hospital |
What’s the difference between a local and general anaesthetic facelift?
Both procedures lift and tighten the lower face and jawline. The main differences are the extent of the surgery, the setting, and the recovery.
The local anaesthetic facelift is performed in Dr Yaprak’s rooms with the patient awake and comfortable. It is suited to patients with mild to moderate facial ageing who want a meaningful improvement without the commitment of a hospital procedure. The procedure takes approximately five hours and patients go home the same day — though an overnight stay in Hamilton is required as you cannot drive yourself home.
The general anaesthetic facelift at Braemar Private Hospital is suited to patients with more significant facial ageing, or where a more comprehensive result is the goal. It may also be combined with a neck lift for patients who have significant laxity in the neck and jawline. Recovery is longer — plan to stay in Hamilton for 1–2 nights post-operatively.
Which option is right for you is determined at consultation — Dr Yaprak will assess your anatomy and discuss which approach is appropriate for your specific situation.
The consultation process before facelift surgery
Before any facelift procedure, two face-to-face consultations with Dr Yaprak are required. This is not simply a recommendation — it is a requirement under NZAPS (New Zealand Association of Plastic Surgeons) guidelines, with a minimum of two weeks between your consultation and surgery.
Your first consultation ($267) is a full clinical assessment. Dr Yaprak will examine your anatomy, discuss your goals, explain your options, and provide an honest recommendation. You will then receive a written all-inclusive quote.
Your second consultation — complimentary — gives you the opportunity to review the plan, ask any remaining questions, and confirm that you’re ready to proceed. Surgery is only scheduled after both consultations are complete.
Does Southern Cross or private insurance cover facelifts?
Cosmetic facelift surgery is not covered by Southern Cross or other private health insurance policies in New Zealand. These procedures are elective cosmetic surgery and fall outside the scope of insurance cover.
The exception is where facial surgery is performed for a documented functional or reconstructive reason — but this applies to a small subset of cases and would be assessed individually. If you believe your situation may have a functional component, mention this at consultation.
Are payment plans available?
Payment plans are not currently available through this practice. Surgery is paid for prior to the procedure date. If you have questions about timing or payment, the team is happy to discuss this at consultation.
The right question to ask any surgeon: “Is that an all-inclusive quote?” A surgical fee alone — without hospital and anaesthetist costs — is not a complete picture of what you’ll pay. Always ask for a written, all-inclusive figure before making any decision.
How to get a quote
The only way to receive an accurate, personalised quote is through a face-to-face consultation. Every patient’s anatomy is different, and the quote reflects your specific situation — not a generic price list.
